Interactive C-Test

The C-Test is a core part of the Studienkolleg entrance exam. Type the missing letters into the field after the beginning of the word. The first and last sentences are given in full — they set the context. Click “Check” and the tool will show your result, just as in the real exam.

Level: B2 — as in the real exam
The real exam sits at roughly B2 level (selected by default). C1 is harder than the exam — use it to build a margin. Don't be put off by a low first score: the C-Test takes practice.
Level:
B2 is the level of the real exam. A2 is for warming up, C1 is harder than the exam and builds a margin.

No German keyboard? Type ae oe ue instead of ä, ö, ü and ss instead of ß – it counts as correct. Upper and lower case don't matter.

Enter or Tab – next gap, Shift+Tab – back. Enter in the last gap checks your answers.

The ↵ key on your phone keyboard jumps to the next gap; in the last one it checks your answers. You can also just tap any gap.

A2 and B1 texts are for warming up: the gaps are a little easier than in the exam.B2 and C1 texts are built like the C-Test in the Studienkolleg entrance exam.

Want analysis and strategy, not just practice?

This is only part of our material. In lessons we work through the logic of the C-Test, the traps it usually sets, and how to complete words faster.

Two texts per level here. The rest are in the practice tool

This page has two texts for each level. The practice tool has eight more per level, free — an e-mail sign-in is all it takes. It keeps your results, so you can see which endings you lose again and again.

There is a separate paid tier with the full task bank, but nothing listed below belongs to it — all of it is simply open.

Shall we let you know when it opens?

Leave whichever suits you — e-mail, phone or Telegram handle. We will write once, when the practice tool goes live, and that is all: no newsletters, no advertising. After the notification we delete your contact.

What is a C-Test?
A C-Test is an exercise in which part of every second word is missing and you have to supply the letters. It measures your general level of German and forms part of the entrance exam at many Studienkollegs.
How does the C-Test work in the entrance exam?
You are usually given several short texts: the first and last sentences are complete, the rest have gaps. An answer counts only on an exact match. The level is roughly B2, and to pass you usually need over 75%.
How do you prepare for a C-Test?
The key is regular practice: read more in German and train yourself to complete words. Use this free online trainer; in lessons we work through the logic of the C-Test and the traps it sets.
Where can I find C-Test materials?
This trainer offers free practice material online: texts at A2, B2 and C1 with instant marking. Further tasks and explanations come with the preparation course.
